So I made a call to my bff and she suggest stabilizer. I had some water soluble stabilizer from some other wild sewing adventure and it worked great. There is still a bit of a pull at the start and stop, probably because I back stitch. I washed the scarf I made yesterday and the seams look great.

Atlanta Thrift Store - Google Map

I am working on creating a map of thrifty for the casual thrifter. On the ones I have personally visited I added comments and reviewed the store. If you would like to add your fav I think you can.

Turtle Love

My nephew love turtles, in this family having a fav anything is license for the most bizarre gifts. This year I made him a plushie.

From Some Art Talk

Julia wrote him a letter earlier this year asking him when he would be visiting, she cut the paper out in the shape of a turtle. I copied her shape to use as my pattern. I used scraps from my recycled clothing box, jeans and a great shirt of hubby's.

Snakey Love

This gift idea came from Dot at Dabbled. I could not use her tutorial because I had already cut all of my sleeves open but what a great gift for a boy.

From Some Art Talk

Here are the girls modeling Super Snake. The gift is intended for their cousin, who we will see on Christmas day. This was a bit of a pain to turn and stuff, but my girls love it so much I needed to get it wrapped before thy pulled Snakey apart.

How cool is this. I feel a new obsession coming on. It is just like the embellish knit but with a purpose. I will buy an antique knitting machine. I will not buy an antique knitting machine. Maybe someone will just get me a kids knitting nancy to hold me over.

Fabric Ball

We have a new baby in the family and I wanted a handmade gift that was not a blankie. I found a few tutorials online but if you really want to get a handle on making balls Jinny Beyer's book Patchwork Balls is the place to go.

From Some Art Talk

I like the tutorial at Burda but I don't really like English paper piecing, it took way too long to make this ball.

This tutorial makes a ball using wedges.

String Doll

J made these at Girl Scouts last week and then she went a bit crazy, we have string dolls all over the house. Little Bit made the star at pre school.

My high school student thought they looked like Voo Doo Dolls, but they made them anyway.

Handmade Holiday Ornament

I started working on a design for this holiday ornament after I saw an older version of it in a picture from my childhood. I made a few by hand but eventually found someone to create a die cut for my Accu Cut so I could cut them out in bulk. The girls and I made some holiday paper during Thanksgiving Break and I am just finishing up the ornaments. I will do a tutorial if there is interest.

Embellish Knit - Review

From Some Art Talk

I have a new toy and it is kinda fun but I don't really know what I am going to do with it. I purchased it this past weekend because I saw Betz White using it on Martha Stewart (see my post on felting). Martha made it look so easy and it was. The instructions are simple to follow and included some knots and flowers you can make with the cord once you make a length of it.

From Some Art Talk

I started with Wool Ease from Lyons cause I originally wanted to add the cord to the hats and make dangly things. It was really easy, so easy that both my 5 & 7 year old could do it.

THEN I tried cotton yarn YIKES!! It did not work at all. If I had started with cotton I would be returning the Embellish Knit, I could not get it to work at all. NADA.

I took it to our neighborhood sing along on Saturday and I had a flock of adorable 5-6 year olds all wanting to make a length. We ended up making necklaces and bracelet a la friendship style and adding some wood beads my daughter had in her pocket (she a bit crafty, ya think).

Free Pattern Downloads

This month we took a break from Selvages to send out different free patterns. We only printed 15 - 20 copies of most of these patterns and we only sent out one per order. I don't want anyone to miss all the fun patterns I found. If you have never checked out the "freebie" area of your favorite manufacturer there are hundreds of other patterns available to you.

Getting Ready

Well the damage to our wallet is fairly substantial and to add to it hubby wants to replace our "vintage" toilets with super doo per fancy new ones. They have the name eco in the title so I am sure they will be great. ;-)

I am not hanging in my studio right now, there is an issue of smell. The Super Sundial guy was here today and they are starting tomorrow am. Ya Team. He did not ask me to move anything although I probably should. Yuck. I am exhausted just thinking about it.

We just cleaned the play room/tv room to prepare for the TREE! A is beside herself with excitement, even though she just decorated her Oma's tree.

Ya !! Daddy & Sister are home we can get started!

Monster Pics

Here are pics of the girls making their holiday gifts.

Sewage - Really

Yikes and Yuck! We knew there was a problem, we even got an estimate but we were hoping to put it off until after the holidays. NOPE!

I got home from a visit to my mom's and the Sugerloaf Craft fair only to discover that the sewage pipe above my husband's den was dripping on my grandmother's sofa. Drip Drip Drip... of the stinkiest red water, it looks like cool aid and smells like vomit. The only light in this tunnel is that there are no bathrooms on that sewage line, only the kitchen.

Hopefully our wonderful plumbers will be in today to repair and replace the cast iron in the basement. Happy Holidays to us.

On a crafty note, this weekend at my mom's I cut out 30 of those Singlit Shopping Bags I posted the link to earlier last week. Hopefully I will be able to get to my sewing room since the pipe of imminent repair runs through it.

Arm Warmers

Urgghhhh!!!

What is a mom to do when her daughter tells her she has no clean long sleeve shirt moments before am departure??? Well not laundry thats fur shur!

How about some arm warmers. These are not perfect, but I measured her upper arm and her wrist and the length of the sleeve I thought I needed and made a trapezoid ish pattern. I did not take into account that she would be wearing a cap sleeve (urg) shirt from our summer screen printing extravaganza. When do children learn to dress themselves properly and do their own laundry?

This will be a great stash buster, depending on the bag you use as your pattern it uses about 2/3 yards of fabric for the exterior and 2/3 for the lining.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today is my favorite day of the year.

I love Thanksgiving: it is a wonderful day to reflect on your life in a positive and loving way, it is filled with amazing smells and an overwhelming amount of food and it is for family and friends.

I love Thanksgiving: it is a celebration of the fall which is my favorite season, my birthday falls on it ever 7 ish years, it does not require gifts or imaginary icons to lend it validity.

I love Thanksgiving.

I am thankful for more thing than I can list in this post my family and friends are at the top of my list.

Thanksgiving is like New Years for me. I spend a lot of time thinking about where I want to be this time next year (which will be "a BIG" birthday). What are my goals and how will I achieve them. Here are a few that I am already working on:

Sew, Craft, Make cause it is fun and you love to do it.
This might seam like an easy goal but about 3 months ago I took a Indie Craft Class and I realized that if it was not for the store or I could not see a way to use it to promote Some Art Fabric, I was not longer doing it. That made me sad. I changed the name of the blog to just Some Art Talk and I started to include my photographic images and the images of photographers I adore, along with a bunch of other crafty things I do.

READ
Another pleasure that has been eclipsed by life. What could be better than slipping into someone else's skin and living a different life for a few hours.

I just reread Breaking Dawn, I think this is truly the finest of the series, I have yet to see the Twilight movie. I might slip away later today. As far as Vampire books go I really love the House of Night series by the mother / daughter team: P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast. The dialog take some getting used to, if you don't hang out with teenagers all day like I do, but what a fun idea, a finishing school for young vampires.

Buy a Bike
I am not huge on exercise of any sort but I used to love riding a bike, it was freedom unlimited when I was younger. So my older daughter and I will be getting bikes very soon. (Maybe even tomorrow if I can find a sale at the local bike shop).

Pray - Meditate - Sit in Silence
My world is very loud, a few years ago during lent I started a morning ritual which involved contemplative / centering prayer. If you are not familiar with it, contemplative / centering prayer is very big in the monastic life and similar to meditation. You have a word, you repeat it over and over again in an attempt to block out your head noise. The word is supposed to be short but I use the word immaculate. Silence is a precious gift and I miss it.

Start Making my Handmade Christmas YIKES!!
Thanksgiving is the trigger that starts this race for me and I better get cracking if I think I will be hand making jack squat. December the blog with be chock full of links to cool quick gift ideas and tomorrow we start a huge Black Friday to Cyber Monday Sale.

Off to my sewing room.

Peace OUT! :-)

ICE DIY

Well, we were one of the official sponsors of the ICE DIY tee shirt area this past Saturday and we had FUN! Thanks to all the great volunteers, most of whom stayed all day to help folks fuse die cut shapes onto organic shirts from Alternative Apparel. If you did not make it down you missed out. Mark you calender now for the summer show!

Here we are getting set up. It did not stay so neat after the folks arrived.
