More Front Garden Pictures

Our Front Garden

We are working towards an edible landscape in the front yard for us and for the birds and butterflies. Last year we had beautiful tomotoes in the very front of the house, right up by the street. We replaced the tomatoes with blueberry bushes, apple trees, pomegrante, strawberries and a BUNCH of flowers.

We need to start pruning and shaping these brand new apple saplings. Research has been done, we need to create a good crotch in the trees, so they will be able to bear the weight of their fruit.
This look like lot of green. In the background are daylilies, some lavender and a bright pink perenial that I swapped seeds for. To the very right is out new Pomagrante, it is more like a shrub than a tree.
Second year Holleyhocks. Can't wait to see how they look.
Love the pink dianthus.

Bachelar Buttons. I am not sure when these were planted they must be from the seed mix I put out last year.
Strawberry plants from last weeks farmers' market. Not sure if we will be harvasting these or they will just be ground cover.
Bronze Fennel, which is official an annual but this is the orginal plant I put in the ground last year. Maybe it is a half hardy perennial. The butterflies are supposed to like it.
These are lots of plants, but most are daisies. I got hundrends of their itty bitty seeds last fall at the farmers' market.

Georgia Organics

We had our first even purchased at a restaurant Gluten Free, Dairy Free pizza at Pizza Fusion this week.We discovered a great new place to eat all thanks to Georgia Organics and our desire to try our hand at locavorism. A locavore is someone who eats stuff that is grown locally, in season.

So with that thought we are visiting the Marietta Farmers Market most Saturdays and we started a garden. I doubt the garden will do much to sustain us, it is fairly pathetic at this moment. We did not start it early and well I love dirt but I generally work with flowers.

We are somewhat hampered by my lack of desire to cook and by our fairly pervasive food allergies. I am working on the cooking but A's favorite snack flies in from Europe, where apparently they cater a bit more to those who cannot consume gluten.

Thanks God for Georgia Organic Farmers, I know we will eat and we are having a great time canning. There will be jam. I am waiting for the freestone peaches and blueberries.

Strawberry Fields Forever

Yummy Good Fun !

We went over to Harry Stacy's Farm to pick some strawberries. The girls loved it. Our models for the "shoot" include my hubby, the "girls" and a special appearance by Indie Craft Goddess Miss Shannon.

I made jam this morning and at the request of my #2 child fresh strawberry pie. We still have 3 of the small baskets in the fridge. I think one more batch of jam tonight.

Harry Stacy's Farm

Before you take your off to pick, call and know that the google directions were not good and that the roads have real names and gangster names. We had to get directions. Try to arrive as soon as they open cause they get picked out fast.

IMPORTANT NOTE!! Keep an eye out for LOST MOUNTAIN NURSERY it is on Dallas HWY on the left as we were heading to Harry Stacy's it has an amazing variety of plants. I failed to take any pictures cause I was overwhelmed by the abundance but I will be heading back to both the farm and the nursery soon.
